The 10,000 square foot camp lodge includes three student dormitories that together sleep 50 people, a modern kitchen, a cafeteria that seats 160 people, recreation room, camp kiosk, shower rooms with hot water, modern toilets, and two fully equipped classrooms. The “Eagle’s Nest Lookout” in the cafeteria provides a panoramic view of the 100 square mile wetland nature preserve adjacent to the camp.
Just outside the camp lodge, a patio with 20 picnic tables provides alternative seating for meals and student gatherings. Three separate activity rooms lie nestled in the woods overlooking the Gen River nature preserve, and are just a two minute walk from the camp lodge. Across the parking lot from the camp lodge lies a large meeting room capable of seating 150 campers.
Shamineau East has 28 Mongolian yurts, twelve in the boy’s section of the camp, twelve in the girl’s section, and four near the VIP guest section of the camp. The boys’ and girls’ student yurts each have five bunk beds arranged dormitory style, comfortably sleeping ten people, while the VIP guest section are set up to accommodate a family. There are two outlying shower buildings with private shower stalls and hot and cold running water. About half of the yurts are winterized for cold weather use – temperatures are a cozy 68 degrees Fahrenheit inside the yurts even if the temperatures outside dip to minus 40 degrees at night in the coldest part of the winter.
The camp has an outdoor regulation size high school basketball court with lights, a soccer and baseball field, grass volleyball field, frisbie golf, and low ropes course. A four kilometer horse trail winds through the adjacent nature preserve. And a mountain located on camp property is perfect for skiing, tobogganing, and other winter sports.
The location provides campers with opportunities for river rafting, swimming, horseback riding, skiing, and nature studies on camp property.
